Manchester United Defender Eric Bailly May Need Surgery, Says Manager Jose Mourinho

Bailly suffered an ankle problem during his international duty and has missed eight consecutive matches.

New Delhi: Jose Mourinho, the manager of the premier league side Manchester United, said Eric Bailly might need an ankle surgery after the defender suffered a serious injury.

The Ivorian, who suffered an ankle problem during his international duty has missed eight consecutive matches, making his last appearance in the English Premier League (EPL) against Chelsea on November 5.

“I think it is serious. I don’t know (how long he will be out),” the Portuguese tactician was quoted as saying by Sky Sports.

“We are trying a conservative treatment but if the treatment is not resulting then probably it will end in a surgical procedure but let’s wait a little bit more.

“I don’t want to be so pessimistic (as to say he might be out for the season). I want to leave it with a doctor. I’m not a doctor. There’s nothing to hide, but I don’t want to be speaking about it,” Mourinho added.

The 23-year-old centre-back has made 33 appearances for Manchester United since 2016. (With IANS inputs)
