Man who ‘threw two ferrets at car’ arrested on suspicion of animal cruelty

A man who allegedly threw a pair of ferrets at a car has been arrested on suspicion of animal cruelty.

The 25-year-old man is also accused of using a ferret box to damage a number of vehicles in Harrogate, North Yorkshire.

Police said the animals are now in the care of the RSPCA.

The man, of no fixed address, was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and causing unnecessary suffering to an animal, North Yorkshire Police said.

He was detained by members of the public after allegedly throwing the ferrets and using their box to smash windows and cause dents and scratches to at least a dozen vehicles on Monday evening.

The suspect remains in police custody.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “We are requesting the public’s assistance to help establish the full circumstances surrounding this incident, and ask for any victims who haven’t already come forward to contact North Yorkshire Police.

“This would have been a very disturbing and alarming incident to those who witnessed it, and we are keen to speak to anyone who has information that could assist the investigation.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 and ask to speak to PC Jessica Errington or PC Nicholas Woods.
