Kota, (Rajasthan), Jul 17 (PTI) More than a month after the death of a daily-wage earning widow in Baran district, police have arrested a 35-year-old paramour for allegedly murdering her suspecting infidelity.

The accused will be produced before a court on Saturday for being placed under judicial custody, police said.

On June 10, Guddibai Dhobi (40), a daily wage labourer, was found dead with fatal injuries on her face and head on the terrace of her house, where she lived alone in Kaidiyahat village under Bapcha police station area, SHO Mahendra Kumar said.

A case under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code was lodged against unidentified accused in the matter and an investigation was initiated.

Following the receipt of DNA sample report of 16 suspects on Thursday, the police arrested Bharat Kumar Prajapat (35) of the same village as his samples matched with those collected from the deceased widow's body at the time of her autopsy, he said.

On the day of the crime, a canine squad that visited the spot also moved to Prajapat's house, around 150 metres away from the house of the deceased widow but he misled the police saying he was not in contact with Guddibi and pointed out the names of other people in the village as accused, the SHO said.

The police eventually collected samples of 16 suspects, including Prajapat, and sent them to a lab in Jaipur for DNA matching, he further said.

The accused later admitted to killing the woman and stated that he was in relationship with the widow since her husband's death in an accident four years ago. He started suspecting of infidelity as she was speaking on her mobile phone with other people for several hours, the police said quoting Prajapat.

On the day of the crime, the accused raped the woman on the rooftop of her house and then killed her using a heavy stone.

Baran SP Vineet Bansal and other senior officials were instrumental in ensuring a speedy investigation that led to the arrest, the SHO added. PTI COR HDA
