Man hangs self over domestic tiff

A man hanged himself following a tiff with his wife, while a young homemaker was saved from the noose by her husband in two bizarrely similar death wish in Jharkhand's suicide region Kolhan on Tuesday.

Anand Sahu (45), a supervisor with a construction firm in Jamshedpur's Golmuri and resident of Gorabasa in the same area, was unhappy with wife Pushpa's lust for money. He objected to a chit fund scheme, which she ran from their home, and this resulted in frequent domestic tiffs.

Late on Monday night, the husband-wife duo quarrelled again, this time to such an extent that a few hours later, around 7am on Tuesday, Sahu locked his room and hanged himself from the ceiling fan.

Family members, who were busy doing daily chores, faced the reality only when he did not answer his door. Sahu was rushed to MGM Medical College and Hospital, but it was too late.

Police later sent the body to MGM medical college for post-mortem. They have also registered a case of unnatural death on the statement of Sahu's son Vikas.

In the other incident, Wahida Khatoon (27) chose the noose at her Islam Nagar home in Kapali police station area of Seraikela-Kharsawan district around 8.30am. The trigger? Rebuke from husband Mohammad Islam, a driver with an automobile firm, for leaving the house unlocked during an evening out at the lighted up Jubilee Park in Bistupur on Monday evening.

Wahida would have been dead had not Islam sensed something was wrong with her and peeped into her room.

"I was getting ready for work. My wife asked me to go out of the room so that she could change. Something was not right and she was taking longer than usual. So, I peeped through the door. I was shocked to see her hanging," the father of three said.

Islam, along with his neighbours, broke the door open and rushed Wahida to MGM. She is recuperating in the ICU. Doctors said her condition was stable. Sakchi police will take her statement once she is able to speak.
