In plenary speech, Rahul says Mahatma died for India, BJP icon Savarkar begged British for mercy
Addressing the closing session of the 84th Congress Plenary Session, Congress President Rahul Gandhi hit out at BJP saying that a "man accused of murder is the President of BJP".
"Like the Kauravas, the BJP and RSS are drunk on power. The people of this country will accept a lying BJP government drunk with power, they'll accept a man accused of murder as the president of BJP, but the people will never accept the same in Congress," Rahul Gandhi said.
Hitting out at the BJP-led government, Rahul Gandhi said that Indians will never let Congress behave like BJP did.
"BJP is the voice of an organisation, Congress is the voice of a nation," Rahul Gandhi added.
"Gandhiji spent 15 years in jail and died for India. India must never forget that when our leader was sleeping on the floor in a British jail, their leader Mr Savarkar was writing to the British begging for mercy."
"I don't say it with happiness but the last govt we formed did not stand up to the expectations of the people. The people of the country were let down by us," Rahul Gandhi said.
Launching a scathing attack at the BJP, Rahul Gandhi said "on one side we are the fastest growing economy, and on the other hand crores of youths do not have a job."
"If you're rich, you can rob the banks off of Rs 30,000 crores. The Finance Minister will go silent because they support crony capitalists. But if you're poor, you've no option but to be a farmer, contract labour or sit unemployed," he added.
Rahul Gandhi also pointed out the presence of China in Doklam and Modi government's inability to deal with it.
"Go to any market, you'll see products made in China. China is everywhere, in our products, in Doklam, in Maldives, in Sri Lanka, in Burma," he said.
Rahul Gandhi also hit out at the Modi government for the Gauri Lankesh murder, Kalburgi murder, beef ban and instances where people were asked to go to Pakistan.
"Yogi government tries to divert the public's attention from important issues. You don't have a job, farmers are committing suicide, let's do Yoga in front of India Gate," Rahul Gandhi said taking a jibe at PM Modi.
