Maharashtra sees highest COVID-19 surge in 2021; CM Uddhav Thackeray warns of lockdown

The state of Maharashtra has been reporting a spike in Coronavirus cases and in the last 24 hours, 14,000 new infections have been reported. The spike in the cases is a little scary because this kind of level was last seen in October-November 2020. Even Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray gives a strict warning over strict lockdown to be enforced in some parts of the state to contain the spread of COVID-19.

Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan also mentioned that Maharashtra among Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Haryana are the states that are at a tipping point. He also mentioned that the Health Ministry has had 3 meetings at the level of the Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, at the level of Cabinet Ministry and at the level of Principal Secretary to honourable PM where the states have been told that they need to pull up their socks.
