Five more people tested positive for the novel coronavirus disease in Vidarbha on Friday. "Three of them are family members of the Nagpur man who had tested positive on Thursday, one person is his close contact and the fifth one is a man from Gondia," Civil Surgeon D V Paturkar told The Indian Express.

The Nagpur man who had tested positive on Thursday returned to from Delhi on March 18. He had developed symptoms about three days later and consulted local doctors before approaching the IGGMC, where he tested positive for the virus.

The authorities had also taken throat swabs of his close relatives, four of whom have tested positive.

Divisional Commissioner Sanjiv Kumar said, "we have identified 21 people who had come in his contact after his return from Delhi and have taken necessary action to isolate them. We will continue to look for more people who, likely, may have come in his contact or the people he had come in contact with him".

Three patients are recuperating in Yavatmal Government Medical College and are about to complete their 14-day quarantine period. According to Yavatmal Collector D M Singh, their health is fine and they maybe discharged after due checks once they complete their quarantine period.

Gondia man, family quarantined

A 24-year-old man and his family were quarantined in Gondia on Friday after one of his friends, with whom he went to Bangkok, had tested positive for coronavirus.

Gondia Collector Kadambari Balkawde said, "The man is 24-year old and had returned to Gondia from Bangkok on March 16. He had gone there with four others from Chhattisgarh. One of them tested positive in Rajnandgaon. I got the message from three, so we swung into action yesterday and sent his samples to Nagpur. It has tested positive for coronavirus."

"We have quarantined his four family members too. Currently, all of them are asymptomatic. We are also tracking the co-travellers in the bogey of the train in which he traveled from Raipur to Gondia," she added.

There were reports of the man not strictly observing the home quarantine regimen and mingling with the public, which caused concern. Asked if that was true, Balkawde said, "we are checking all things out and will initiate whatever steps are needed to be taken".

Three held for circulating fake audio clip

NAGPUR police have arrested three persons in connection with an audio tape that claimed Nagpur had 59 corona positive cases.

"The arrests were made on Thursday night. Jai alias Omprakash Gupta, Ajit Shivpal Pardhi and Divyanshu Ramvilas Mishra are the names of the persons arrested by the cyber cell of Nagpur police," Joint Commissioner of Police Ravindra Kadam told mediapersons here on Friday.

"Our cyber cell tracked over 400 telephone numbers to trace the culprits. Gupta is an MBA, Pardhi is an engineer and Mishra is a computer engineer and a finance manager in a private company. Their intention was to create confusion in people's minds," Kadam further said.

"This clip had gone viral all over the state creating an atmosphere of distrust against doctors, paramedics and other officials," Kadam also said.

The three had made the tape on March 20.
