Nagpur: The brother of a farmer in Bhanapur reportedly threw poison into the well on the latter’s farm, sending shockwaves throughout the drought-ridden village. The action has struck fear in the minds of other farmers. A disaster was averted as the farmer was tipped off by the discoloured water and immediately lodged a complaint with police.
Gajanan Maruti Rajguru has a farm in Bhanapur Shivara, where he resides with his family. Gajanan’s family uses the water from this well for drinking. After his cousin Rajkumar Sanjabrao Rajguru allegedly poured poison in the well, the water turned red and emitted an obnoxious odour, which alerted Gajanan. Immediately Gajanan went to Mehakar police station and lodged a complaint.
A complaint under relevant sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC) against Rajkumar, primarily for cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property (420/18) and negligent conduct with respect to poisonous substance (284).This incident has shocked farmers in the village, which is already reeling under drought. For now, Gajanan and his family will have to tap into other sources for drinking water.
