Maharashtra: Bird flu cases reported in Parbhani, Mumbai and Thane

Avian influenza has been confirmed in Maharashtra with the deaths of different birds in Parbhani, Mumbai, Thane, Beed, and Dapoli in the state. However, it is "absolutely safe" to consume eggs or chicken as the virus cannot withstand cooking temperatures, and people need not worry as infection to humans due to bird flu is "rarest of rare". Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray will chair a meeting at 5 PM today to review the bird flu situation in the state. Reports also confirm that there will be increasing bio-safety measures in poultry farms so that there is no interface with wild birds.
