Mahadayi river dispute: Opposition slams Goa CM

Panaji, Nov 18 (PTI) Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawantis under fire from Opposition parties over the ongoing tusslebetween the coastal state and neighbouring Karnataka oversharing of the Mahadayi river water.

In the latest attack, former deputy chief ministerVijai Sardesai on Monday asked Sawant to campaign in Karnatakaby-elections and talk about not allowing diversion of theriver water there.

'I challenge @DrPramodPSawant to campaign in#KarnatakaByElection and publicly state that he wouldn't allowa single drop of #Mhadei water to be diverted. Last month hecanvassed in Maharashtra assembly polls and bought propertytoo,' tweeted Sardesai, who headsthe Goa Forward Party (GFP).

Opposition parties have been targeting Sawant, asUnion Environment Minister and BJP leader Prakash Javadekarcould not withdraw the letter given by his ministry to theKarnataka government.

The letter stated that no Environment Clearance (EC)was required for one of the projects on the Mahadayi river inthe southern state.

On November 4, Javadekar had assured an all-partydelegation of politicians from Goa in New Delhi that he wouldclarify on the letter within ten days. PTI RPSNSK NSK
