Maha reports 2,840 COVID-19 cases, 5,123 recoveries; 68 die

(Eds: With additional details) Mumbai, Nov 17 (PTI) Maharashtra's COVID-19 tally rose to 17,52,509 with the addition of 2,840 new cases on Tuesday, while recoveries outstripped fresh infections with 5,123 patients discharged from hospitals, said the state health department.

With 68 more COVID-19 deaths, the state's fatality count rose to 46,102, the department said in a statement.

The department said of the 68 deaths, 51 were from the past 48 hours, while 12 from the last week.

The remaining five deaths were from the period before the last week, it said.

A total of 5,123 patients were discharged from hospitals on Tuesday, which took the number of recovered persons to 16,23,503 so far, the department said.

Mumbai city reported the highest single-day cases in the state in the last 24 hours with a spike of 541, while Pune city saw a rise of 145 infections.

Nagpur and Thane cities reported 115 and 105 cases, respectively, the release said.

Of the total deaths reported on Monday, 14 were from Mumbai city, while Pune city recorded 8 fatalities.

Out of the total 2,840 new cases, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), accounted for 1,008, the release said.

The MMR, which includes Mumbai city and its satellite towns, has till now reported 6,07,991 cases and 18,369 deaths.

The countrys financial capital alone has witnessed 2,70,660 cases and 10,599 deaths till now.

The COVID-19 recovery rate in the state is 92.64 per cent, while the fatality rate is 2.63 per cent, the department said.

Currently, 7,91,120 people are in home quarantine and 5,367 in institutional quarantine.

There are 81,925 active cases in the state at present, the release said.

A total of 98,47,478 people have been tested across the state so far, it said.
