Palghar, Jul 15 (PTI) A train ticket led police to the alleged murderer of a woman whose body had been found in Maharashtra's Palghar district last week, an official said on Thursday.
Ismail Maqsood Khan, 30, was arrested from Baghpat in Uttar Pradesh two days ago, he said.
The decomposed body of Mehbuba Bibi Saju Shaikh, resident of Kelicha Pada in Naigaon town, was found on July 9. She had been strangulated, said senior inspector Vilas Chougule of Valiv police station.
From a train ticket found at the scene of offense, the police zeroed in on Khan and found that he had fled to UP. He was arrested from the village near Baghpat where he was living, the official said.
Probe revealed that Khan, who was working in Saudi Arabia, met the woman through a social media app and the two fell in love. But the relationship soured and the victim allegedly began to harass him for money, he told police.
On July 4, when Khan was visiting the woman at her Naigaon house, they had a quarrel and Khan strangulated her with her dupatta and fled to UP, the inspector said. Further probe is on. PTI COR KRK KRK
