Maha: 4304 more contract COVID-19; active cases below 62,000

(Eds: Adds details) Mumbai, Dec 16 (PTI) Maharashtra's COVID-19 tally rose to 18,80,893 on Wednesday with the addition of 4,304 fresh cases, said a state health department official.

The state also reported 95 more deaths, taking the fatality count to 48,434, he said.

The state reported a drop in number of positive patients by 10,218 compared to Tuesday with the authorities attributing it to reconciliation of figures in database where some names were repeated.

The reconciliation procedure has been completed of the data compiled till November 12.

The remaining data is going through a similar procedure and there may be further correction in the figures, said the official from the health department.

It has also resulted in reducing the discharged patients' figure by 791, he added.

A total of 4,678 patients were discharged from hospitals, taking the tally of recovered people to 17,69,897, the official said.

With this, the number of active cases stood at 61,454, he said.

Mumbai city reported 795 positive cases during the day, which pushed its overall count to 2,84,404, while its death toll rose to 11,003 as 12 more patients succumbed to the infection, the official said.

The Mumbai division, which consists of Mumbai city and its satellite towns, reported 1,408 new cases, raising the total count to 6,44,439.

A total of 18,771 people have died so far in the region, the official said.

The Nashik division's cumulative case tally stood at 2,56,545 and the death toll at 4,726.

The number of cases in the Pune division stood at 4,69,810 and the deaths at 11,102, he said.

The Kolhapur division has reported 1,15,526 cases and 3,925 deaths till now, while the Aurangabad division's case tally stood at 70,655 and the death count at 1,805.

The Latur division has reported 76,727 cases and 2,349 fatalities until now, the official said.

The Akola division has recorded 61,735 cases, while 1,454 people have succumbed to the disease so far, he said.

The Nagpur division has registered 1,84,601 infections and 4,175 fatalities till now, the official informed.

So far, 855 COVID-19 patients from outside Maharashtra have received treatment in the state. Of these, 127 have died, he said.

The state has so far conducted 1,18,71,449 COVID-19 tests.
