A former municipal councillor and senior leader of the Madhya Pradesh State Congress Committee committed suicide after killing his wife at his Hanuman Tal area residence in Jabalpur, early Wednesday morning.
The dead have been identified as Sayeed Malguazar and his wife Usmana Bano.
According to the police, the incident occurred between 7 and 8 am. Police was informed by neighbours who heard gunshots from inside the house. The house was locked from inside and any outsider involvement has been ruled out.
According to the police, Bano was found lying in a pool of blood on a sofa in the drawing room while Malguzar's body was found in the adjacent room. Both had suffered fatal bullet injuries.
According to district SP GP Prashar, two 12 bore rifles have been recovered from the spot. "The dead couple's son had gone to the nearby mosque for morning prayers when the incident occurred. The dead bodies have been sent for post-mortem and further investigations are on," Prashar said while talking to India Today.
Jabalpur city Congress president Dinesh Yadav while recalling his association with Malguzar said, "He was a very docile kind of a man. It is difficult to believe he could do such a thing. His death is a loss to the Congress and we are monitoring the investigations. Only police can tell why he took such a step."
Bhurre Pehlawan, Malguzar's relative was the first to reach the spot. "He had offered the morning namaz at 5.20 am. I was told by his brother-in-law that gun shots had been heard from the house. I reached the spot and found his son wailing outside the house. The house was locked from inside. Police was informed and after breaking open the main door, we found Bano with a gunshot on her forehead. Malguzar had a gun shot on his chest," he said.
