Madhya Pradesh: Rajput Samaj Threatens Protest Over Alauddin Khilji’s Glorification in Class XII History Book
Bhopal, Feb 8: Rajput Samaj in Madhya Pradesh has threatened protests if the controversial chapter from class XII history book, which glorifies Alauddin Khilji, is not removed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Madhya Pradesh. “We have asked the government to order removal of the chapter immediately as it glorifies Khilji as a hero,” Rajput Samaj General Secretary Deepak Chouhan was quoted as saying in a report.
He also added that the description of Khilji as a valiant warrior and the coverage given to his victories has been mentioned in 13 pages whereas, the valor of queen Padmavati has been covered only in a couple of lines.
Meanwhile, the Minister of State for School Education Deepak Joshi told The Indian Express that the matter will be referred to the standing committee of the state textbook corporation that decides the syllabus. He also mentioned that the changes can only be incorporated from next academic year.
Notably, the Rajput Karni Sena had withdrawn protest against Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat a few days back. The move came after a section of the group saw the movie and came out stating that the film has depicted the courage and sacrifice of the Rajputs. With this, the group also allowed Padmaavat’s release in Rajasthan and Gujarat.
