In the Issewal gangrape case in Ludhiana, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has granted bail to the key accused. In relation to the alleged gangrape of a 21-year-old woman, the defendant, Jagroop Singh, was arrested. On February 9th last year, near Issewal village, about 15 km from Ludhiana, she was allegedly raped by ten men.
Singh got bail on December 29, according to a study in Amar Ujala, despite his DNA samples showing the match of semen on the victim's clothes. The proof was also recovered by the police from the gang members' cell phones. They are allegedly serial criminals who assaulted women and took their pictures in secrecy to blackmail them.
Since the accused got bail, the victim and her friend have previously reported that they were being harassed. The woman further alleged that her house had been visited by the family of the main defendant to intimidate her. She later lodged a complaint with the police. Furthermore, SSP Charanjeet Singh (Rural) said they would approach the Supreme Court to revoke the bail for the main defendant.
