Rajesh and Nupur Talwar, parents of 14-year-old Aarushi who was murdered in her Noida apartment in May 2008, would walk free today. The Talwars are expected to be released from Dasna prison in Ghaziabad where they have been locked since November 2013 after they were awarded life sentence for killing Aarushi and domestic help Hemraj. The Allahabad High Court on October 12 had overturned CBI trial court’s verdict acquitting the dentist couple, saying saying they could not be held guilty on the basis of the evidence on record.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit his home state Gujarat today to address a gathering of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers at a village near Gandhinagar. Modi will address a gathering at the ‘Gujarat Gaurav Mahasammelan’ which is being organised by the state BJP to celebrate the conclusion of the saffron party’s ‘Gujarat Gaurav Yatra’ (march for honour). Senior BJP leaders had taken part in the 15-day march, which was launched on October 1 covering a distance of around 4,471 kms, spread over 149 of the 182 Assembly constituencies in the state.

The Indian Railways will introduce a new, cheaper and faster Rajdhani on the Delhi-Mumbai route from Monday. The new Rajdhani will travel from Hazrat Nizamuddin station in Delhi to the Bandra Terminus in Mumbai. It will decrease travel time by two hours and will also cost passengers Rs 600-800 less than the two other Rajdhanis already on the route.
