New Delhi, Oct 23: The Election Commission of India (ECI) is likely to announce the dates for the crucial Gujarat Assembly Elections 2017 today. Speculations are rife that the announcement may take place by evening however, no official confirmation on the same has been received yet.
Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi will embark on a three-day visit to Gujarat today ahead of the crucial Gujarat Assembly Elections 2017. Gandhi will be addressing a rally called by Alpesh Thakore, the President of OBC , SC, ST Ekta Manch in Ahmedabad. Thakore had met Rahul Gandhi on Friday at the latter’s resident soon after which he had announced that he would be joining the Congress.
On the other hand in Uttar Pradesh, major American companies including Facebook, Adobe, Coca Cola, Mastercard, Monsanto, Uber, Honeywell, P&G, Oracle and GE Health and Cargill will interact with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath today to explore investment opportunities in the state with the tagline ‘US in UP’.
Honeypreet Insan, the adopted daughter of convicted Dera Sacha Sauda Chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh is likely to be produced in Haryana’s Panchkula court today. Earlier on October 13, a Panchkula court sent Honeypreet Insan and her accomplice Sukhdeep Kaur to judicial custody till October 23.
The Delhi High Court will also hear a plea seeking criminalisation of marital rape. The Public Interest Litigation (PIL) requests that marital rape should be criminalised and treated as rape. The plea has also sought the provisions of rape to be made gender neutral.
The Supreme Court will hear a fraud case against Unitech Managing Director Sanjay Chandra. On September 15, the top court had refused to grant interim bail to Chandra in the case, relating to delaying of housing projects in Noida and Gurugram.
