Light to moderate rain in UP; Banda coldest at 6 deg C

Lucknow, Jan 4 (PTI) Light to moderate rain coupled with thundershowers occurred at many places in Uttar Pradesh on Monday, with mercury dipping to 6 degrees Celsius in Banda.

According to the meteorological department, state capital Lucknow recorded a minimum temperature of 14.6 degrees Celsius, while Allahabad recorded a low of 13.6 degrees Celsius.

Both Kanpur and Gorakhpur recorded minimum temperature of 13.8 degrees Celsius, it said.

Varanasi recorded a minimum temperature of 11.5 degrees Celsius, while Jhansi’s temperature settled at 15.2 degrees Celsius. Muzaffarnagar recorded a minimum of 10.6 degrees Celsius, the MeT said.

Banda was the coldest place in the state where mercury dipped to 6 degrees Celsius, it said.

The weather department said thunderstorm and lightning accompanied with hailstorm are very likely at isolated places over western parts of the state on January 5.

Dense fog is very likely at isolated places over western UP on January 6 and January 7, it added.
