Legendary Richards may don 'mentor' role in Warne's Melbourne Stars BB team

Sydney, Oct 25(ANI): Legendary West Indies batsman Sir Viv Richards is weighing a proposal to take up the team mentor role at Big Bash team Melbourne Stars, and talks between both the parties are going on.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Richards was approached by Stars captain Shane Warne to join the MCG-based team's support staff, as he will be in Australia to commentate during the one-day series in February.

Though an official deal is still being thrashed out, the Stars confirmed today they are hopeful the 60-year-old Antiguan will come on board as a mentor to the players, the paper added.

Richards would be the latest big-name addition to the Stars' back-room staff, with Ian Chappell enlisted as chairman of selectors, it said.

Though Richards will not be a batting coach so much as a sounding board, the batsmen to come under his tutelage would include ex-captain Cameron White, Brad Hodge, David Hussey, Glenn Maxwell and England import Luke Wright, it added. (ANI)
