GAME PREVIEW

After back-to-back draws in I-League 2018/19, Gokulam Kerala host South Indian rivals Chennai City FC on Sunday at the EMS Corporation Stadium, Kozhikode.

Bino George’s men started their campaign with a closely fought 1-1 draw against Mohun Bagan at home. They came back from behind to put up a spirited show hold the Kolkata giants for a draw.

They next travelled to Imphal to face last season’s runners-up NEROCA FC. Gokulam took the lead in the first half via young attacker Baoringdao Bodo’s strike. Unfortunately, Eduardo Ferreira restored parity in the match to deny the Malabarians from registering a win.

Bino’s side are now up against a strong Chennai City side who are currently on the second position in the league table behind toppers East Bengal.

Pedro Manzi Chennai City

Akbar Nawaz’s Chennai were off to a flying start in the I-League this season as they thrashed Indian Arrows 4-1 at home. Spanish forward Pedro Manzi scored a hat-trick to seal an emphatic win for his side.

In their second match though, the South Indian outfit faltered as they dropped a point in an exciting clash against Churchill Brothers at home.

Nestor Gordillo had put Chennai in the lead early in the match. But Nenad Novakovic and Israil Gurung scored early in the second half to put Churchill in front. Wayne Vaz’s own goal restored parity in the match and sealed a point for Chennai.

Chennai are yet to register a win against Gokulam Kerala. Chennai City lost 0-1 at home and managed a 1-1 draw in Kozhikode.

Akbar Nawaz’s side will hope to register their first win against Gokulam on Sunday and climb to the top of the league table.
