Rupee Ends Higher At 70.02 Against Dollar On Friday

The rupee rebounded by 23 paise to close at 70.02 against the dollar on Friday after Brent crude oil prices receded from a six-month high of $75.60/barrel.

The U.S. Treasury Department on Friday imposed sanctions on Venezuela’s foreign minister and a Venezuelan judge, according to a statement on the department’s website.

Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) Cancels Around 670 Flights In Sweden, Norway And Denmark

A total of 1,409 Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) pilots from Sweden, Norway and Denmark went on strike on Friday, causing 673 cancellations so far and over 70,000 passengers affected.

SAS warned that the continuing strike could affect a further 100,000 passengers over the weekend, reports Xinhua news agency.

Yes Bank Posts Net Loss Of Rs 1,506.6 Crore For Q4

The country's fifth-largest private sector lender, Yes Bank Ltd on Friday reported a net loss of Rs 1,506.6 crore for the March 2019 quarter as provisions rose.

In the corresponding quarter last year, the company had posted a net profit of Rs 1,179.44 crore. CNBC-TV18 Polls had predicted a profit of Rs 952.2 crore for the quarter under review.

PepsiCo Sues Gujarat Farmers For Producing Similar Variety Of Potatoes Used In 'Lays'

PepsiCo, the multinational food giant has sued farmers of Gujarat for cultivating the potato variety used in the 'Lays' brand of chips that is manufactured and sold by it.

In the commercial trademark suit filed in Ahmedabad City Commercial Court against four farmers, PepsiCo India Holdings Ltd has claimed that in 2016 it obtained registration under The Protection of Plant Varieties and Protection of Farmers Rights Act 2001 to breed a special variety of potato, which is used in making "Lays" chips.

Man Gets Seven Years Of Imprisonment For Raping A Tribal Girl In Bhiwandi

A court in Thane has sentenced a 26-year-old Ashirwad Vishnu Patil to seven years of rigorous imprisonment for raping a tribal girl in Bhiwandi in 2016.

A special court judge P P Jadhav held Patil guilty under Indian Penal Code section 376 (rape) and relevant provisions the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, and awarded the sentence on Monday.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on him.

Surat Businessman Who Bought PM's Suit In 2015, Duped Of Rs 1 Crore

A prominent diamond merchant of Surat, Laljibhai Patel who had bought Prime Minister Narendra Modi's pinstripe suit in an auction in 2015, has been allegedly duped of Rs 1 crore by two brothers, police said Friday.

The Chairman of Dharmanandan Diamonds Pvt Ltd, had hit the headlines in 2015 when he bought Modi's much- famed pinstripe suit for Rs 4.31 crore in a public auction here.

The police has reported that a complaint in this regard was registered at the Katargam police station of Surat on 22 April by the manager of Dharmanandan Diamonds, Kamlesh Kevadiya.

Delhi Police To Look Into Accusations Of Sexual Harassment Against IndiGo Pilot

The Delhi Police is probing into the allegations of sexual harassment made by a female cabin crew of budget carrier IndiGo against a senior pilot and is in the process of collecting evidence, including voice recording from the cockpit.

The police has registered a case after the complaint from a female cabin crew, wherein she said the incident happened on-board Bengaluru-Amritsar-Srinagar-Delhi flight on April 16.

Police also said that the accused pilot had applied for an anticipatory bail at a city court on April 24 but the plea was rejected by the court the next day.

Delhi Police To Submit Report Regarding The Alleged Seditious Statements By Rahul Gandhi

The Court of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate has directed the Delhi Police to submit its Action Taken Report in terms of the alleged seditious statements made by Congress president Rahul Gandhi in the afternoon of the 2016 surgical strike.

The order came in a plea seeking registration of an FIR against Rahul for allegedly accusing Narendra Modi of hiding behind the blood of soldiers and cashing ion their sacrifice.

The matter will be heard next on May 15.

Facebook Sues New Zealand Company Over Fake Likes

Facebook on Thursday filed a lawsuit in US federal court to bar a New Zealand company from selling fake "likes," views and followers to Instagram users.

The company and three people targeted in the lawsuit operated a service to raise the profile of Instagram accounts by bolstering them with bogus followers, views and "likes," Facebook director of platform enforcement and litigation Jessica Romero said in a blog post.

Rupee Rises 16 Paise to 70.09 vs USD in Early Trade

The rupee appreciated 16 paise to 70.09 against the US dollar in opening trade on Friday, driven by positive opening in domestic equities and weakening greenback in overseas markets.

The rupee opened strong at 70.12 at the interbank forex market, then gained further ground to touch 70.09 per dollar, displaying gains of 16 paise against the greenback.

Forex dealers said easing crude prices, sustained foreign fund inflows and selling of the American currency by exporters supported the rupee.

North Korea's Kim Says US Acted In 'Bad Faith' at Hanoi Talks: KCNA

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has accused the United States of acting in "bad faith" during his Hanoi summit with President Donald Trump, and said peace on the peninsula depends on Washington, state media said on Friday, 26 April.

Kim made the comments during his first summit with Russia's Vladimir Putin on Thursday in Vladivostok, the Korean Central News Agency reported, describing their talks as "unreserved and friendly".

The North Korean leader said "the situation on the Korean peninsula and the region is now at a standstill and has reached a critical point", KCNA said.
