Building Collapses in Lucknow
A part of a two-storey dilapidated building collapsed in Lucknow's Golaganj area on Wednesday, 5 September. The collapse of the building, located near the Gulab Cinema, ended up damaging a car. A team of the municipality is present at the spot, and the remaining portion of the building will now be demolished, ANI reported.
Sensex, Nifty Open Flat; Metals Fall, Drugmakers Rise
Indian equity benchmarks edged higher led by gains in pharma shares. However, the gains were capped due to weakness in metal and banking stocks.
The S&P Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) Sensex rose 0.2 percent to 38,242 and the NSE Nifty 50 index rose 0.14 percent to 11,537.
Sixteen of 19 sector gauges compiled by BSE were trading lower led by the S&P BSE Metal index's 1 percent drop. On the flipside, the S&P BSE Healthcare index was top gainer, up 0.6 percent.
Mid and small-cap shares were underperforming their larger peers, as the S&P BSE MidCap index fell 0.3 percent and the S&P BSE SmallCap index declined 0.25 percent.
Bihar Man Shot at Home
An unidentified assailants shot at a man after barging into his house in Bihar's Badi Mathia area, ANI reported.
The man died on the spot. The identity of the man is yet to be revealed. More details awaited.
CBI Raids TN’s Top Officials' Houses in Gutkha Scam
Central Bureau Investigation has launched a massive search operation in 40 places in Chennai in connection with Gutkha scam, ANI reported.
Houses of Tamil Nadu DGP TK Rajendran at Mogappair, ex-DGP S George near Maduravoyal, Health Minister C Vijayabaskar and other police officers are also being searched.
SC Dismisses Petition on Ban on Novel - Meesha
The Supreme Court on Wednesday, 5 September has dismissed the petition seeking a ban on the Malayalam novel Meesha written by S. Harish.
The bench headed by Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra, dismissed the petition, saying 'the writer's imagination must enjoy freedom,’ ANI report added.
Farmer's Rally in Delhi Begins Today
The Mazdoor Kisan Sangharsh started a rally towards Parliament from Ramlila Maidan on Wednesday, 5 September, ANI reported.
The rally is being organised by Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) and All India Agriculture Workers Union (AIAWU), demanding debt waivers for farmers among others.

Ex-IPS Officer Detained in Relation to 1998 Palanpur Drug Case
Dismissed IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt has been detained by CID of Gujarat in connection with Palanpur drug planting case of 1998, ANI reported.
A probe is underway after High court's orders. Interrogation of Sanjiv Bhatt and seven others are underway. Two more former police officers are also involved in the case, ANI added.
Twitter India Head Quits, Balaji Krish Interim Chief
Taranjeet Singh, who was elevated as Twitter's Country Director for India in May 2017, has decided to move on and Balaji Krish, Global Head of Revenue Operations and Strategy at Twitter will be the interim Country Lead, the company said, IANS reported.
Over the next month, Singh will ensure a smooth transition to Krish who will be coming from the US to be interim country lead while Twitter searches for Singh's replacement in India, the report added.

J&K National Conference Boycotts Panchayat Elections
Jammu and Kashmir National Conference said that they will not participate in the upcoming panchayat elections, ANI reported. They added that the decision will remain unchanged until the government of India and J&K meet their demands.
