Kumar Vishwas pokes fun at Rahul, Smriti; says Amethi sick of actors

NEW DELHI: A day after the BJP decided to field actor-turned-politician Smriti Irani against Rahul Gandhi and Kumar Vishwas from Amethi, the Aam Aadmi Party leader made fun of his opponents saying that the people of Amethi were sick of actors.

Speaking to CNN-IBN, Kumar Vishwas took a jibe at Rahul Gandhi and Smriti Irani saying: 'We don't care who the BJP or the Congress pitches against me. Amethi is already sick of a political actors. Rahul is a political actor. Now one more actor has joined the fray.'

The BJP on Monday declared that Smriti Irani will take on Rahul Gandhi in Amethi and Supreme Court lawyer Ajay Agarwal will face Sonia Gandhi in Rae Bareli.

The 38-year-old TV actress became a household name with popular serial 'Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi'.

A senior party leader said this time the BJP is not ignoring even a single seat and both the candidates have been selected to give tough contest to Congress heavyweights.

Kumar Vishwas had earlier said that the Congress vice president will lose by a big margin in Amethi.

Saying a "historic campaign" was under way in Amethi, Kumar Vishwas said his confidence about his own victory and Gandhi's defeat came from numerous interactions with voters, mainly in rural pockets.

"I am confident Rahul Gandhi will not only lose but will lose by a big margin."
