KPL fixing scandal: Two domestic cricketers arrested (Eds: Fixing typos) Bengaluru, Nov 7 (PTI) Two more domestic cricketerswere arrested on Thursday in connection with the KarnatakaPremier League fixing scandal, taking the total number ofthose detained to six.
Bellary Tuskers captain C M Gautam, a former Karnatakawicketkeeper-batsman and his teammate Abrar Qazi were arrestedby the city Central Crime Branch, which is investigatingcharges of fixing in the last two seasons of KPL.
'We have arrested two players with regard to KPLfixing,' Additional Commissioner of Police Sandeep Patil toldPTI, adding some more arrests may be made as the investigationprogressed.
Police said the two were involved in fixing in the KPL2019 finals between Hubballi versus Ballari.
'They were paid Rs 20 lakh for slow batting, and forother things. Also, they fixed another match against Bengaluruteam,' an investigation officer said.
The arrest comes close on the heels of the detentionof Bengaluru team player Nishant Singh Shekhawat earlier thisweek. Three others including the owner of the Belagavi team,have been arrested in the past couple of months since thescandal came to light.
Gautam and Qazi have played in domestic cricket andthe Indian Premier League also.
While Gautam is a seasoned Karnataka cricketer, whohas shifted to Goa this season, Qazi now plays for Mizoram.
Apart from featuring in the Ranji Trophy for Karnatakaand Goa, Gautam has played in the IPL for RCB, Mumbai Indiansand Delhi Daredevils, the officer added.
Qazi had played Ranji for Karnataka and now turns outfor Mizoram, the investigation officer added.
Both Gautham and Qazi had been named in theirrespective state squads for the upcoming Syed Mushtaq AliTrophy tournament, scheduled to begin on Friday.
On October 26, Bengaluru Blasters bowling coach VinuPrasad and batsman Vishwanathan were arrested in connectionwith the fixing scandal.
The coach allegedly manipulated a game betweenBengaluru Blasters and Belagavi Panthers last year.
The KPL fixing came to limelight with the arrest ofAli Ashfaq Thara, who owned the Belagavi team. PTI GMS SS VSSSSS SS
