FPJ Web Desk

The Modi Cabinet swearing-in happened yesterday and the curiosity to know which minister will be assigned what portfolio was raised to the peak which by now has calmed down. All the ministers have now been given the hold of their respective portfolios for the upcoming 5 years of Modi’s second term.

The portfolios were bestowed upon the ministers in three categories. One is the Cabinet Minister, second is the Minister of state and third is the Minister of State (Independent Charge)
Let us get to know what their actual role is:

– Minister of State and Minister of State with Independent Charge:

Ministers of State have almost the same responsibility as Ministry of State (Independent Charge) but one difference. Minister of State with Independent Charge is a minister without an overseeing Cabinet Minister in the State or Union Government of India. He himself is incharge of his ministry, unlike Minister of State who is also a Minister but assists a cabinet minister.

– Cabinet Minister:

A Cabinet Minister is the head of a particular ministry such as Education, Health, Home, Foreign, etc. The Minister of State reports to the Cabinet Minister. To be precise, he/she is the junior member who works in close coordination with a Union Minister .

– Minister of State and Cabinet Minister:

Minister of State (MoS) is junior to Cabinet Minister. … Every MoS reports to either Cabinet Minister or Independent charge of ministry, they works in close coordination. However, the Union Minister comes into picture when a bigger policy decision needs to be taken MoS does not possess authority of decision making.
