Pinarayi Vijayan, a veteran of the CPI(M), was elected as the party's Parliamentary leader on Tuesday, paving the way for his second term as Kerala Chief Minister. K K Shailaja, the outgoing Assembly's Health Minister, does not find a spot in the current cabinet, which includes 11 new faces from the CPI (M). In Vijayan's previous government, KK Shailaja held the health portfolio and was well-known for his contributions and efforts in combating the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic. The Marxist party's state committee, chaired by senior leader Elamaram Kareem, elected Vijayan as its leader and decided to entrust Shailaja with the role of party whip. The party's state committee meeting was held at the AKG Centre.
