Kiran Bedi Carries Out Road Surprise Midnight Inspection on Puducherry Roads, Finds no Police
Puducherry, August 21: Puducherry Governor Kiran Bedi carried out a surprise inspection in the Union territory of Puducherry by riding on a two-wheeler on Friday night. Bedi was shocked to see no police presence on the roads and public places in the town.
According to reports, Bedi said that although the town seemed safe, there was no single police officials present on the road (unless they were in disguise). She said that there were several triple riders who were over-speeding. She informed that there were also noisy bikes without silencers. She instructed the director general of police to launch new measure to prevent crime starting Saturday, August 26. Kiran Bedi carried out this inspection on a bike along with a woman employee of the Raj Niwas.
Bedi received mixed response for her inspection. Some appreciated her while some questioned and criticised her for not wearing a helmet. However, in her tweet, she mentioned that not wearing a helmet was a careful choice as wanted to appear vulnerable and wanted to see how women driving a scooter at night are looked at.
