Udhgamandalam, Feb 4 (PTI) An elephant, which killed three people including a father and son in December last year and evaded the forest department's attempts at capture, has been found moving about in Nilgiris district, police said on Thursday.
The male elephant, with single tusk and nicknamed Shankar, had killed the trio on December 11 and 13 in Gudalur, creating panic among the villagers.
Though the forest department made efforts to locate it using drone and tranquilise, the pachyderm moved to the Kerala forests and a few tribals subsequently confirmed seeing the elephant at Nilambur in Kerala.
Even as the forest department officials from both Kerala and Tamil Nadu were monitoring its movement, Shankar crossed over to Tamil Nadu and was found moving about at Cherampadi, about 85 KM from here, early Thursday, police said.
Once located, it will be tranquilised and with the help of two or three tamed pachyderms, will be taken to an elephant camp, they said.PTI COR NVM BN ADMINISTRATOR BN ADMINISTRATOR
