Much like every year, the Malayalam industry saw a wide range of subjects last year, be it the crime thriller Oppam or the gangster drama Kammatipaadam.
A total of 68 feature films were submitted for Kerala State Awards 2016, out of which 12 made it to the final rounds. Veteran filmmaker Adoor Gopalakrishnan's Pinneyum, Dileesh Pothan's Maheshinte Prathikaram, Vysakh's Pulimurugan and Priyadarshan's Oppam are some of the films to have been shortlisted by the jury for the final round.
It must be noted that Mohanlal's Pulimurugan was the first Malayalam film to have grossed Rs 150 crore at the box office.
In the Best Actor category, Mohanlal, Fahadh Faasil, Vinayakan and Salim Kumar are battling for the honour. Rumours are rife that Mohanlal is likely to grab the award for his performances in Oppam and Pulimurugan. In the actress category, Sai Pallavi, Manju Warrier, Rima Kallingal and Kavya Madhavan are the names that is doing the rounds online.
The jury members preceded by director AK Bir includes directors Priyanandanan, Sundar Das, Sudevan, actor Shanti Krishna, singer VT Murali and sound designer Arun Nambiar. According to reports, the jury members watched these films from February 21.
