Kerala reports 8,778 COVID-19 cases, 22 deaths

Thiruvananthapuram, Apr 14 (PTI) Kerala logged 8,778 new COVID-19 cases, including 41 health workers, and 22 related deaths on Wednesday, taking the caseload to 11.89 lakh and the toll to 4,836.

As many as 2,642 people were cured of the infection, taking the total number of recoveries to 11,25,775.

Health Minister K K Shailaja said a total of had 65,258 samples were tested on Wednesday, taking the overall number to 1,39,52,957 The test positivity rate stood at 13. 45 per cent.

Till now, the state has tested 1,39,52,957 samples, she said in a release.

Among the districts, Ernakulam reported the highest number of 1,226 cases, followed by Kozhikode with 1,098 and Malappuram with 888.

'Out of those found infected today, 205 reached the state from outside, while 7,905 contracted the disease through their contacts. The sources of infection of 627 are yet to be traced.

Forty one health workers are also among the infected,' Shailaja said.

Currently, there are 58,245 people under treatment in the state.

A total of 1,90,199 people are under observation, out of which 8,326 are in isolation wards of various hospitals.
