Kerala records 1,989 new COVID-19 cases, 12 deaths

Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 25 (PTI): Kerala recorded 1,989 fresh COVID-19 cases and 12 more deaths on Thursday, taking the caseload to 11,12,246 and the toll to 4,539.

As many as 1,865 people got cured today, pushing the total recoveries to 10,82,668 while the active cases stood at 24,380, Health minister K K Shailaja said in a press release.

In the last 24 hours ending 2 pm today, 51,027 samples were tested and the test positivity rate was 3.9 per cent.

According to the release, 1,28,61,734 samples have been sent for testing so far.

Those infected today include 15 health workers while 75 had come from outside the state and 1,746 were infected through contact.

As many as 1,27,105 people are under observation in various districts,including 3,746 in hospitals.

About 5.57 lakh doses of COVID vaccine have reached the state, the health department said.

According to the department, 25,19,549 people have taken the first dose of the vaccine and 3,82,242 the second dose.PTI UD BN BN
