Kerala: Protests by PSC rank holders escalate amid 'backdoor nomination' row

Protests across Kerala have escalated amid the ongoing row over the alleged backdoor appointment (inducing an employee by not following the set procedure) in government employment in Kerala, Public Service Commission or PSC rank holders. On Tuesday morning, Kannur saw PSC Last Grade candidates protesting, holding a 'shayana pradakshinam' (rolling on the ground) in protest.

Rank holders held protests across districts shouting slogans that they had been working hard to get their grades, asking the government to open its eyes. On Monday, two Public Service Commission or PSC rank holders tried to take their own lives in front of the Thiruvananthapuram Secretariat. While their suicide attempt was immediately thwarted, given the continuing allegations of backdoor appointments, the issue has attracted attention.
