13 Nov 2018: Kerala cop, accused of murdering youth, found hanging

A Kerala Police officer who had been on the run after he was booked in a murder case has been found dead at his home in Kallambalam near Thiruvananthapuram.

The officer, Deputy Superintendent Police (DSP) B. Harikumar, reportedly hanged himself.

Harikumar had been absconding from November 5 - the day of the alleged murder.

Here are the details.

Murder: What went down on the night of the alleged murder

On the night of November 5, Harikumar got into an altercation with an electrician, 32-year-old Sanal Kumar, over a parking issue.

The altercation led to the flaring of tempers, and Harikumar allegedly ended up pushing Kumar into the path of a speeding car.

Kumar suffered grievous injuries from the resultant accident, and was declared brought dead to the hospital.

Aftermath: Harikumar was believed to have crossed into Tamil Nadu

Following Kumar's death, Harikumar was suspended and a case was registered against him under Section 302 of the IPC.

The cop also went missing after the incident, leading many to believe that he had crossed the state border into Tamil Nadu.

However, despite police teams scouring border areas, Harikumar was not to be found.

He was finally found dead at his home.

Protest: Kumar's wife says Harikumar's death was 'God's will'

Meanwhile, Kumar's wife Viji began a hunger strike on the spot of the accident on Tuesday, demanding the immediate arrest of Harikumar.

She alleged that authorities were protecting the cop, and demanded a CBI or a court-led probe into Kumar's death.

However, on hearing about Harikumar's suicide, she ended her agitation, saying "God's verdict has come".
