Kerala Censor Board rejects 'Varthamanam' film on JNU agitation

The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) regional office in Kerala has refused permission to screen the Malayalam film 'Varthamanam,' which is set in the context of student protests held earlier this year at the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in New Delhi.

The film, directed by filmmaker Sidhartha Siva, narrates the journey of a Keralite woman, played by actress Parvathy Thiruvoth, who travels from Kozhikode to the JNU campus in New Delhi to investigate a freedom fighter.

The CBFC officials did not mention any reason for their rejection, according to the film's producer and scriptwriter, Aryadan Shoukath. He added that this week the film would be submitted for approval before the revising committee of the Censor Board in Mumbai.
