Kentucky Lawmaker Kills Self After Denying Allegations of Sexual Misconduct

He called it an assault on all real people and said it is partly politically motivated.

Louisville, Dec 14: A Kentucky state representative committed suicide days after he denied allegations of sexual misconduct and refused to step down from his office. As per reports, he shot himself and the weapon has been recovered by the police.

Rep. Dan Johnson reportedly shot and killed himself on a bridge in Mount Washington. Earlier Johnson had denied the allegations as ‘politically motivated’. However, the expose on Monday by The Kentucky Center for Investigative Reporting alleged that he forced himself on a 17-year old friend of his daughter after a party in 2012.

While Johnson denied the claims, he said the accuser was a member of his church and the claims were partly politically involved. However, later he acknowledged to have messaged the girl on Facebook in January 2013 and claiming to not remember what happened the night of the alleged encounter. He also said he was ‘drugged’ at a local bar that night, The Hill reported.

Following the expose on Monday, it led to a series of outcry calling for his resignation from his state House seat. However, Johnson later denied ever entering the room where the girls were sleeping and said he did not remember what happened that night.

He called it an assault on all real people and said, “There’s no perfect people and you get into office and all of sudden political hacks come against you and start accusing you after you’re in office,” Courier-Journal reported.
