With Mumbai being the hub of Bollywood, Lakmé Fashion Week is now an equal platform for both great sartorial showcases by prolific designers and a voluminous celebrity guest list. Whether it's in the form of showstoppers, or FROW sightings (front row, for the uninitiated), celebrities tend to fill in the gaps, if any, during this five-day extravaganza. This year's Winter Festive edition is currently happening at Mumbai's St. Regis. But the first show to have set in motion one of the prime seasons of the Indian fashion calendar was of Manish Malhotra, which happened at Famous Studio last night. Titled Maahrumysha, Malhotra's display witnessed an A-list crowd. Athiya Shetty, Mrunal Thakur, Daisy Shah, Karan Johar, Khushi Kapoor, Ishaan Khattar, and others were donned in his designs to root for him. Malhotra also used this platform to partner with Hindustan Unilever and launch a new fabric care product.
Those who are familiar with Malhotra's trademark elements did not really miss much. Continuing his signature style on this runway as well, his collection was festive, using fabrics like cotton, silk and wool. Saris sheathed in sequins, voluminous lehengas featuring elaborate threadwork and crop tops with ruffled sleeves, bandhgalas and structured jackets for men were a part of Malhotra's collection. Playing muse and showstopper was actress Katrina Kaif, who sashayed down the runway in a black lehenga looking as gorgeous as she normally does. Malhotra's collection, though not defiant of his usual sartorial aesthetics, will definitely be a favourite with brides and celebrities.
