Kashi Vishwanath Case: Varanasi court gives nod for ASI Survey of Gyanvapi mosque

The Varanasi Court has allowed the ASI to conduct a survey of Gyanvapi Mosque at Kashi. A local lawyer filed the petition. The Uttar Pradesh Government will entirely bear the cost of the study. Court heard the plea by the Lawyer Vijay Kumar Rastogi concerning Gyanvapi Mosque. The lawyer has stated that the land should be transferred to Hindus. Petitioner claimed that the Mosque was built in 1664 by the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb after bringing down a portion of the Kashi Vishwanath temple. This was considered a sensitive issue and was left untouched for years. The matter gains back attention when the Hindus pursued the case.
