Karnataka 'anti-cow slaughter' law passed after governor gives assent

Karnataka governor Vajubhai Rudabhai Vala has given the nod to pass the 'anti-cow slaughter' law in the state proposed by BJP. The new law provides punishment for the killing of cattle and offers protection to those "acting in good faith" to save them. The anti-cow slaughter bill was passed by the Karnataka government in the state Assembly on December 9, 2020, and the state government promulgated the ordinance earlier today. The Karnataka government had to go for the ordinance route as the bill had not been approved by the Legislative Council yet. Watch the full video for more details on this.
