Vishal Bhardwaj's Rangoon was one of the most-anticipated films of the year. From managing a casting coup of sorts by getting Kangana Ranaut, Shahid Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan in a film to setting up a love triangle against the backdrop of World War II, Vishal was lauded for his efforts. But the excitement and anticipation couldn't be reciprocated at the box office. Within a few days of its release, the film has already been declared a dud.
But Saif's wife Kareena Kapoor Khan is unfazed by the box office failure of Rangoon. In an interview to Firstpost, Kareena said, "Vishal Bhardwaj's films are art, it is like a painting. You either like his films or you don't. It is not like a typical commercial film that is going to cater to everybody's taste and sensibilities, he caters to a certain section of audience and that is why some critics have revered it and called it a piece of art. Vishal Bhardwaj is known for that. So when you do a film like that, with a lot of love for cinema, the actors get lot of appreciation."
She added, "Some films are beyond box office collections." Interestingly, Kareena was spotted at the screening of Rangoon a week back, and the yummy mommy revealed that she never attends screenings of Saif's films but she made an exception for Rangoon.
While Saif is mum about Rangoon's failure at the box office, Kareena said, "Saif has been in the industry for 25 long years. He is beyond success or failure of his movies."
Made on a budget of Rs 80 crore, Rangoon has managed to earn only Rs 20 crore at the ticket window, and has been declared a dud.
