Kapur finishes tied 4th

Hyogo (Japan): Indian golfer Shiv Kapur picked up the biggest cheque of the year after finishing tied fourth with a superb four-under 67 in the final round of the Asia-Pacific Panasonic Open here on Sunday.

Kapur picked up a cheque of $80,000 after finishing with a four-day total of 13-under 271, ending four behind the leader.

Atlanta: American Brandt Snedeker edged ahead of world No. 1 Rory McIlroy in the FedExCup play-off race by charging into a tie for the lead in Saturday's third round of the elite Tour Championship.

Snedeker matched the best score of the week, firing a flawless six-under-par 64 to join Britain's Justin Rose (68) at eight-under 202. Tiger Woods, who had battled to a 73 in Friday's second round, carded a 67 to climb into a four-way tie for seventh at four under.

Pune: Ankita Sunil Gosavi of Maharashtra and Puneet Chauhan of Haryana set new national records on the second day of the National Inter-Zone Junior Athletics Championships here on Sunday.

Ankita clocked 14.45 secs to win the girls' under-16 100m hurdles as she eclipsed Meghana Shetty's (Karanataka) two-year-old mark of 14.57s. In boys' under-14 600m, Puneet shattered the national record with a time of 1:24.54.

Cape Town: Corrie Sanders, the South African southpaw who knocked out Wladimir Klitschko in one of the great upsets in heavyweight boxing, has died after being shot by robbers at a restaurant during a family celebration.

The former WBO and WBU champion was 46.

Sanders was shot in the hand and stomach at a family member's 21st birthday gathering at the restaurant in Brits, in South Africa's North West province, on Saturday night, police said.
