Actor Kamal Haasan's middle name could well be 'unexpected'.

When his film career was going swimmingly, he launched his own political party.

And quite worryingly for his legion of fans, he also said he was quitting his film career for good, and that the much speculated Indian-2, under the baton of ace director Shankar, would be his last movie.

As it happens, Kamal's party, Makkal Neethi Maiam, for a fledgling outfit, had a decent show without threatening to win any seat in the general elections or by-elections in Tamil Nadu.

Later reports had it that Indian 2 is in limbo for various reasons, including him developing a severe allergy to the prosthetic make-up (crucial to his character in the film). The film, according to the industry grapevine, has almost been given up for good as the director Shankar is also reportedly set to move over to another project.

Amidst all this, out of the blue, yesterday, news emerged that Kamal's long-pending movie Thalaivan Irukiran is being revived.

Kamal Haasan and the movie's music director AR Rahman tweeted about working on the movie. And quite interestingly, the film is being jointly produced by Kamal's own Rajkamal Productions and Lyca, which was involved in Indian-2.

Of course, it is still not clear whether Kamal himself is doing Thalaivan Irukiran or whether he will be roping in any other actor. But as originally conceived, as way back as 2008, Thalaivan Irukkiran would be a political-cum-action/adventure movie. Also, it was initially said that there would also be a Hindi version, which was tentatively named Amar Hai with Saif Ali Khan also in the cast.

Now it is not known whether this new iteration of Thalaivan Irukkiran will have a Hindi version. But Tamil media is speculating that Aamir Khan might be roped in.

Sources close to Kamal today said that Thalaivan Irukkiran being a political movie will work two ways. It will keep his political pot boiling while also keeping him in films

As far as the heroine of the film is concerned, all kinds of names were previously bandied about. Shreya Saran, Anushka Shetty, Katrina Kaif, and Trisha were all talked of. But surely none of the names is expected to find a place in the new scheme of things now. As of now, only Rahman's name is confirmed. He last worked with Kamal in a Tamil movie named Thenali. It is not even known who will direct the movie.

As ever, Kamal is keeping everyone guessing.
