Washington, September 10: The United States (US) President Donald Trump fired national security advisor John Bolton on Tuesday. Trump asked for Bolton’s resignation as there were some disagreements between the two leaders over several issues. The former US NSA offered his resignation in the morning. Trump in a tweet said, “I informed John Bolton last night that his services are no longer needed at the White House. I disagreed strongly with many of his suggestions, as did others in the Administration, and therefore I asked John for his resignation, which was given to me this morning. The US president also stated that he would be naming a new National Security Advisor next week. According to reports, Trump made an announcement of firing Bolton almost 90 minutes before the former NSA was expected to appear at a press briefing with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin. Tensions between Trump and Bolton were reportedly aggravated after the US President decided to call off a planned airstrikes on Iran in retaliation for the downing of an American surveillance drone. Bolton wanted airstrikes on Iran. Bolton was also not in favour of Trump and North Korea’s dictator Kim-Jong Un meeting at the Demilitarized Zone between North and South Korea.
