At 1 p.m., the BJP convened a news conference to make the formal announcement. Prasada, a well-known Brahmin, joined the BJP in the run-up to the important Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. Prasada, a two-term Member of Parliament, is a youthful leader who served as a close adviser to former Congress President Rahul Gandhi. Prasada began his career as the general secretary of the Indian Youth Congress.
