Jio GigaFiber may launch soon: Apart from cheap prices, what else Jio will offer
We have been talking about Jio GigaFiber a lot since it was unveiled in beta testing last year. Similar to its telecom division, Jio also opened up GigaFiber to the public under testing phase. Interested subscribers could enjoy free broadband Internet connectivity by paying a deposit amount of Rs 4,500. Over the months, there have been several leaks from industry insiders and there's a lot of information out there that can literally help you make your mind even before Jio announces anything.
If you have been following the Jio GigaFiber rumour belt, it's easy to figure out that GigaFiber is more than just a broadband service. Jio is planning to offer a connected smart home ecosystem by offering three services together - a broadband connection, TV connection and landline. As with Jio, GigaFiber will be relying on its fiber optics network to offer these services. And more than just cheap prices, GigaFiber could end up being the service that every geek would have been expecting or years now.
GigaFiber will offer bleeding-edge tech
Jio has always been relying on next-generation technologies for its telecom services and the same will happen with GigaFiber.
--Unlike most broadband services, GigaFiber will be relying on fiber optics network. This will ensure faster network speeds with negligible loss in signal. Other operators using optical fiber technology only use fiber optics for the network backbone and rely on slower cables to connect houses to the main network. With GigaFiber, it's an all-optical cable affair - there are no old-fashioned cables involved.
--The GigaFiber service will ensure fast 100Mbps speeds on an average. Under the Preview offer, subscribers have been enjoying 100Mbps speeds so far. Netflix in its Network ISP Speed Index has always picked GigaFiber as the operator with the highest streaming speeds.
--Unlike other broadband services that only offer conventional Wi-Fi routers, GigaFiber under the Preview offer has been offering dual-band Wi-Fi routers enabling higher speeds for modern devices.
--GigaFiber will also bundle a TV and landline connection. The Jio Home TV connection, as rumoured so far, will rely on the Internet to stream TV channels. Therefore, subscribers can expect HD channels with higher resolution. Rumours even suggest that Rs 600 per month will fetch 600 TV channels. The landline connection will enable free voice calls.
--If you have been unable to afford the standard security deposit of Rs 4,500 under the Preview offer, Jio offers another plan with a security deposit of Rs 2,500. This plan offers a single-band router and enforces a speed limit of 50Mbps.
--With a connected ecosystem like this, GigaFiber could enable penetration of more smart devices in Indian homes. With the rising demand for smart TVs and other smart appliances, GigaFiber could be a cost-effective way to upgrade to the smart device ecosystem.
