Jio GigaFiber, GigaTV could launch on August 12: Here's what we can expect about pricing and other features
Almost a year ago, Reliance announced its foray into the broadband and DTH TV sectors in India with Jio GigaFiber and since then, the service has been in a kind of free public beta in various cities under the Preview offer. And so far, even under the preview mode, GigaFiber has been making headlines with its fast service and a technologically sound infrastructure. With rumours of GigaFiber expected to bring affordable prices, many have been wondering when GigaFiber could launch in India. Well, it seems that the wait is almost over.
Reliance has announced the date for its 42nd Annual General Meeting and this time, the company is expected to announce GigaFiber's commercial prices. The event is taking place on August 12 and Reliance hasn't given a hint on what consumers could expect this year. However, a media report from a few months ago suggested that Jio is almost done with testing of the network and it could soon launch the service in India.
Along with Jio GigaFiber, Reliance could also announce its foray into the TV sector with its GigaTV or Jio Home TV (the name isn't known yet). Not much is known about this service but if the rumours are to be believed, GigaTV will be a part of the monthly subscription package that also includes GigaFiber and a free landline connection.
Here are some of the newbies that we can expect Reliance to announce regarding the broadband and TV service.
Reliance 42nd AGM: Will GigaFiber and Jio Home TV be launched commercially?
--Reliance hasn't hinted at anything for this year's AGM but it is expected that Jio will launch GigaFiber broadband commercially. Along with GigaFiber, we can also expect Reliance's Jio Home TV service to be launched.
--We have a heard a lot of rumours and leaks about GigaFiber's commercial services over the months. If all of those turn out to be true, then GigaFiber can be a good proposition for those want better value out of their broadband service.
--With GigaFiber, it is expected that the base plan could be called the Jio Triple Play and will offer its subscribers up to 100GB complimentary data at speeds of 50Mbps for Rs 600. There could be another higher-priced plan worth Rs 1,000 that will offer higher data speeds of 100Mbps.
--The GigaTV service, meanwhile, could be offering 600 TV channels in the subscription package and it will rely on the fiber network technology of GigaFiber to offers high-definition TV viewing experience.
--Subscribers will also be entitled to unlimited calls via a free landline connection.
