Jignesh Mevani Urges Radhika Vemula, Mother of Rohith Vemula, to Contest Lok Sabha Elections 2019 to ‘Teach Lesson to Manusmriti Irani’
New Delhi, Jan 18: Gujarat MLA and Dalit leader Jignesh Mevani has appealed to late student Rohith Vemula’s mother Radhika Vemula to contest the Lok Sabha Elections 2019 to take on Information and Broadcasting Minister Smriti Irani. “I strongly appeal to our inspiration Radhika(amma) Vemula to contest in 2019 elections and teach a lesson to Manusmriti Irani in Parliament,” Mevani tweeted on Thursday.
Mevani had earlier claimed that there is a threat to his life and said that the Bharatiya Janata Party and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh can kill him. “I also have the same feeling as (VHP leader) Pravin Togadia. The fascist forces are capable of killing anyone. There is a threat to my life as well. The BJP and RSS can kill me, and as per my sources, they definitely want to eliminate me,” Mevani told The Indian Express.

Jignesh Mevani, who led protests in Gujarat against Dalit atrocities after four men were stripped and brutally thrashed with iron rods by cow vigilantes in Una in 2015, ran a relentless campaign against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Gujarat Assembly elections. Having become an MLA in Gujarat now, he is taking his movement nationwide and is also set to hold a rally along with Patidar leader Hardik Patel and NCP chief Sharad Pawar on January 26 in Mumbai.
He also held Yuva Hunkaar rally in the national capital earlier this month despite no permission from Delhi Police, where he accused the BJP government of not paying heed to the real issues – corruption, poverty and unemployment.
