Ranchi, Jan. 1 (ANI): The Governor of Jharkhand, Syed Ahmed, has appointed former deputy chief minister and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha MLA Stephen Marandi as the Pro-tem Speaker of Jharkhand State Assembly.
Marandi will preside over assembly proceedings till a new speaker is elected, an official release from the governor's office said.
The release further stated that the governor has approved the Raghubar Das-led Cabinet's December 28 decision to make Marandi the Pro-tem Speaker to enable the newly elected MLAs to take oath.
BJP has already announced its MLA Dinesh Oraon for the post of speaker.
Oraon is likely to file his nomination papers for the post on January 6 when the assembly will meet for four days. (ANI)
