Jammu & Kashmir reorganisation act amended; State cadre under MHA now

On Thursday, through an order issued by the government, the Jammu and Kashmir cadre of the Indian Police Service, Indian Administrative Service and Indian Forest Service officially merged with the Union Territory cadre.

The order signed by President Ram Nath Kovind amending Sections 13 and 88 of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act 2019 and issued by the Ministry of Law stated that the representatives of IAS, IPS and IFoS will now become part of the AGMUT (Arunachal, Goa, Mizoram and Union Territories) structure for the current Jammu and Kashmir framework.

They can now position the officers from these UTs in J&K and vice versa. After the government had recategorized the former state into two UTs-J&K and Ladakh after scrapping Article 370, which gave the state somewhat special status, on August 5, 2019, this J&K cadre of All India services stopped inducing new officers.
