Jammu: 5 arrested for carrying illegal foreign currency

Police sources said that on intelligence inputs, police raided one local hotel in Jammu and picked up five suspects belonging to Kashmir Valley.

The Enforcement Directorate is interrogating five Kashmiri men, who were picked by Jammu Police in City Chowk area after getting inputs from the Central Intelligence Agency that possessed foreign currency.

Police sources said that on intelligence inputs, police raided one local hotel in Jammu and picked up five suspects belonging to Kashmir Valley. The suspects had come from New Delhi along with Venezuelan currency amounting to Rs 3 lakh and a cheque of J&K Bank of Rs 3.3 lakh.

Police said that all the five suspects, Mohd Sadiq, Ghulam Rasool Malik, Bilal Ahmed, Javed Ahmed and Mohd Shafi belong to Baramulla district of Kashmir.

Dr Sunil Gupta, SSP, Jammu said, "We could not find any terrorism links, so have handed over the case to the ED for further investigation."

Sources said that the ED are doing sustained interrogation of all five to ascertain their links in the foreign countries and how they got Venezuelan currency in New Delhi.
